New look!

How do you like our new look?

I’d been meaning to come up with a logo and business card since I first started this crocheting adventure, but I’ve just never had the time. Then one day, while I was shopping at a craft store, the lady behind me in the check-out line asked what I was going to do with all the yarn in my basket. I told her I made crochet toys. She said she would love to see them. Then I realized it would have been the perfect time to give her my business card. Too bad I hadn’t ordered any yet. I think it was the universe giving me a sign.

I came home and immediately started designed a card. I liked it so much, I’ve also made it my new logo. You’ll see it on my blog and also Facebook. Eventually, it will be the banner for Comfort Creature’s etsy page (coming soon). Please take a look and let me know what you think!

Aloha Pineapple

Before my friend, Katie’s baby shower, I asked her what she’d like me to make for your baby’s nursery. Since Katie and her husband decided to not find out about the baby’s gender before the birth, she was more limited in her choices. Katie told me that the baby’s nursery will have an Aloha/Hawaiian theme, so she wanted a pineapple to match.

Katie’s baby shower was held at another friend’s backyard on a beautiful day. I was very excited to see her reaction when she opened up my present. When she took away the tissue paper and saw the pineapple, Katie started laughing! She said she was expecting a small, hand-held sized pineapple, like the one she saw on my blog, but I surprised her with something better. It was a giant pineapple! She kept saying she was so surprised! She loved it!

The head/body of the pineapple was the same pattern as the smaller size pineapple. I used my “giant-ization” (don’t think that’s a real word, but it describes my process very well) method of crocheting with super bulky yarn with a large size crochet hook. I changed the leaves a bit. I wanted the leaves to look more like a real pineapple. The leaves on the last pineapple were just regular leaves that were randomly sewn on the top of the pineapple. This time, I made the leaves different sizes, from large in the center to small on the outside. They are bundled together and curl down, almost like a crown. What do you think? Is it close?

This was one of my favorite projects so far. Then again, I say that about everything I make. I can honestly say that I love learning new things every time I make an Amigurumi.

Thanks again for joining me this week!

Elephant for Ruben Agustin's 1st Birthday

I can’t believe my friend’s son, Ruben Agustin, turned 1-year-old! Remember baby Ruben with the jungle friends? He’s starting to walk now. Last weekend, Ruben Agustin had a birthday party at the park to celebrate.

To match the animals his dad painted on his nursery walls, I wanted to make each animal amigurumi to match. So far, I made Ruben Agustin a lion and a monkey. For his birthday present, I made an adorable Amigurumi elephant.

I used the “Boy Elephant” pattern from Amigurumi World: Seriously Cute Crochet by Ana Paula Rimoli. I’ve always thought this pattern was so cute and wanted to make it. It was the perfect size to match the elephant and monkey!

Here’s baby Ruben Agustin with his new friend! Ruben and Jessica tell me that he loves it!

This is the mural that my friend Ruben painted for his son’s nursery. It’s the cutest painting ever! The next two animals I have to make are a giraffe and a zebra!

Thanks for joining me again. See you next week!
